Learn MoreDave Derag, Alot of counters are mostly made out of 304 stainless, I use 316 wire which is acceptable. Nfinch96, You might have some problems on that thin stainless, If your going to try to mig it I would like to suggest .023 wire. Remember that your welds need to be smooth so food does'nt get caught in the weld ripples which can hold bacteria.

Learn MoreMIG/MAG Welding: This Is How It Works. In MIG/MAG welding, a filler metal or welding wire ignites the arc if it touches the component. The consumable wire is used as allowance. In order to protect the arc from the reactive oxygen in the surroundings, a “shielding gas” also flows through the gas nozzle.

Learn MoreThe degree of spatter is dependent upon the composition and flow rate of the shielding gas, wire-feed speed, and the characteristics of the welding power supply. DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive) is used for most stainless-steel welding. A 1or 2% argon-oxygen mixture is recommended for most stainless steel spray arc welding.
Learn MoreThe answer to your first question is yes, you can MIG weld thin gauge stainless steel in a short circuit mode with compact type 120V or 230V input power MIG welders (see example in Figure 1).The machine would have the same amperage and resulting material thickness capability with stainless steel as it does with carbon steel.
